The Asylum Capacity Support Group Secretariat is pleased to invite you to the upcoming technical meeting of the Asylum Capacity Support Group Dialogue Platform, “Responsible Innovation for Refugee Protection: AI and Asylum Procedures.”
Asylum systems worldwide continue to face significant pressure, with 3.7 million asylum applications recorded in 2025 and around 9 million asylum-seekers awaiting decisions at the end of 2025. In this context, States are increasingly exploring the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to support asylum administration and processing, improve efficiency, strengthen service delivery and address operational challenges. At the same time, the use of AI in asylum procedures raises important legal, ethical and protection considerations that require careful assessment. Recognizing both the opportunities and challenges associated with AI, the Asylum Capacity Support Group will host a virtual event to explore emerging approaches to the use of AI in asylum procedures. The discussion will examine potential benefits, risks and considerations for responsible implementation, while highlighting experiences, lessons learned and emerging practices from States and other stakeholders. The event will also consider how AI can contribute to more efficient, fair, adaptable, and integrity-driven asylum systems while preserving human judgment and oversight.
The Concept Note for the meeting and Agenda is available in Arabic | English | French | Spanish.
The meeting will take place in virtual format on Tuesday, 10 November 2026, from 15:30 to 17:00 CET, with Arabic, English, French and Spanish interpretation.

We look forward to your participation and contributions.
