UNHCR is pleased to share the draft UNHCR Strategy on strengthening national asylum systems (2025-2030) for consultation and written inputs.
This UNHCR Strategy is being developed against the backdrop of a rising number of asylum applications globally and complex drivers of movement, making the development of strong and well-functioning asylum systems critically important. Developed in response to the Independent Evaluation of UNHCR’s Support for Strengthening National Asylum Systems, the Strategy sets out UNHCR’s objectives and priority strategic areas of engagement to strengthen the fairness, efficiency, adaptability and integrity of national asylum systems until 2030. It provides clarity on UNHCR’s role and contribution, the actions the organization will take to achieve these goals, and its asks to others. Given the multi-faceted challenges faced by national asylum systems, achieving these objectives will require leadership and active engagement from States and a range of other stakeholders through strengthened burden- and responsibility-sharing at national, regional and global levels.
UNHCR seeks to finalize the Strategy benefitting from inputs from States and other stakeholders engaged in strengthening asylum capacity. All stakeholders are invited to provide their comments in writing by 7 February 2025 to [email protected] indicating in the subject “UNHCR Strategy on strengthening national asylum systems”. Submissions should be made in English, Arabic, French or Spanish and in WORD or PDF format. Kindly ensure that your name and/or organization are clearly reflected and that the comment is referenced to the specific sections with page numbers.
